At first I was very hesitant about making them though. At the beginning of the pandemic there was so much misleading information out there about mask and what materials were appropriate for mask. That information was changing everyday constantly contradicting itself. By the time I figured out what was right to use, stores were closed and materials were hard to get. The materials I had on hand that were appropriate were limited so I made mask for family and friends who needed them and past customers who asked and were able to supply me with materials. But making masks was not something I enjoyed making (at first). The style of mask I was making met all the requirements but I was not happy with how they were turning out and they were fiddly to make. But they were needed and I didn’t have time to perfect the design.
After a few months once everyone had their supply of masks, I was able to come up with the design of mask that I make now. I found a video showing how to make a pleated style mask with a nose flap instead of a wire. I adjusted the way it’s sewn together and changed the style of straps to come up with (in my opinion) the most comfortable mask.
They’re comfortable to wear, don’t slide down or up when your talking, no hard nose wire, don’t fog up glasses and have soft and adjustable ear straps. I am very happy with how this style turns out and enjoy the process of making a few at a time now.
Here’s just a few photos of some of the masks I’ve made both new and old style.
