Over the past year I’ve been trying to make and wear more self sewn clothes. Here are most of my makes for myself from the past year. It is easier, faster and typically cheaper to just go to the store and buy clothes but since I can make them myself then why wouldn’t I. Making my own clothes is rewarding and I end up with a nicer fitting and better quality garment. I will still buy basics from the store but I am working on creating more self sewn items in my closet. It’s also pretty awesome when someone says “l like that, where did you get it?” and you can reply “thanks I made it!”.

Here is a quilt I designed and made! It took approximately 20 hours from start to finish. The front is pieced together in solid colour cottons to make a design and the back is a printed cotton with a design of city buildings. The quilt is layered together with cotton batting for warmth, machine quilted along some of the diagonal seamlines, and hand bound for a clean finish.
I found an app that allowed me to create the design I wanted on my quilt and then put it together in the size I wanted, it also calculated all the amounts of fabric I needed and what size pieces I needed to cut, very handy to use. The app is called Quilt Studio. I personalized these bags with custome name and number plates. Custom appliqués can be made in any shape. Hand cut and then satin stitched around for bold clean lines.
Before and after photos of these flower girl dresses. These were great dresses but they needed a little more added to them to make them flower girl dresses. I started out with making slight alterations to the dresses so that they fit the girls. Then I added 3 more layers of gathered tule and an extra lining layer to each dress to make the skirts a little more poofy and not as see through. And a finishing touch of tacking on the flower waistband so that it wouldn’t slide around. Those few small changes had a big effect on these dresses and made them look more put together.
This large hooded cape was made to accompany a vampire Halloween costume. Made and self lined with a black polyester satin.
Indoor cushions, outdoor cushions, any size, any shape, any style, any amount. I can make them new or recover your old ones. Here’s just a few of the ones I made this past summer. If you send me rough measurements I will calculate the amount of fabric that is needed and provide you with a complete shopping list so you can’t pick a fabric that you like. In all the cushion covers I make I incorporate a zipper so that the cover can be removed and cleaned up if needed.

Meet Erie, Erie is a medical alert service dog. Her owner was having a hard time finding a vest for Erie to wear that fit properly. All the vest they tried were not the right size or rubbed in spots and revmoved fur. There are not very many options out there for service dog vest so they came to me to see if I could help. We sat down and took a look at all of the vest they have tried in the past and looked at what worked and what didn’t. From that we came up with a design that would function best for the owner and be the most comfortable for Erie.
The vest includes adjustable straps, metal D rings to attach the lead handle and a light, multiple Velcro patches so that the badges can be removed and moved around, and a pocket to keep medical information in. Erie and her owner are very happy with how the vest turned out and said it is working very well! This coat held some sentimental value to the customer as it was fathers coat who has past away. The outside of the coat was still in good condition with just a few missing button but the inside lining was completely shredded. I carefully removed the lining, copied the size and shape of the pieces and created a new lining to sew into the coat to give it a second life. I was even able to find the exact same buttons in my stash of buttons to replace the missing ones. Knowing that doing a project like this really means a lot to someone is heart warming.
I have made lots of Roman sheds before but this time the customer requested seamless Roman sades. This is because they did not want the printed pattern on the fabric to be distorted. I had never made them this way before but I am always up for trying something new so I gave it a try. They turned out just as great as the normal Roman shades that I’ve made. I made a set of three of these Roman shades for a basement bedroom at a cottage. They include a little extra detail with thick piping along the top edge and a two piece decorative bottom edge.
Window coverings that actually fit the style and shape of your windows can really bring a room together. This project included making 6 custom sized tab back curtains with ties, 2 roamed shades made to fit inside the window frames, and taking pre exsisting tab back curtains and making them fit the bay style window by attaching some of the panels to make them bigger and splinting others to make them smaller as well as making tie backs. I really like the look the tab back curtains give and the sleekness of the Roman shades.
This custom made baby crib bedding set turned out so cute! The customer picked the most aborable fabric! Although it hard to photograph without a crib this set includes a quilted comforter, bumper pad and a crib skirt. You don’t have to be limited to what you can buy in stores, get stuff custom made and love it!
Patio makeover! Patio furniture is all different, there’s not one standard size for cushions, so when they wear out it is hard to find replacements. Typically the furniture frame is still in good condition but unfortunately the fabric covering the cushions fades, gets dirty, and deteriorates due to the sun exposure. Simply get your cushions recovered and have it look like you bought all new patio furniture. I will make the cushion covers in the exact same style as the originals. Any size, any shape, I can recover your cushions. I also include a zipper in all of my cushion covers so that if you need to you can take off the cover and wash them.
This was my first time making a hat. My grandfather always wears this style of hat so I thought I would try and make him one for his 80th birthday. It turned out amazing and he really liked it. This was a free hat pattern from the aboutgoodness blog that I found on Pinterest. I used scrap faux suede material left over from another project for the outside and used a breathable mesh fabric for the lining. It’s always fun to try and make something new!
These custom curtains were made to match the themes of these little boys bedrooms. The curtains are lined with blackout fabric so that their rooms can be completely dark at naptime. The curtains turned out great, you would never find curtains like these in a store. There are so many options with getting custom-made!
Custom made Dr. Seuss Thing 1 & Thing 2 diaper covers and bow ties for a first birthday photo shoot. Every little detail counts! Sometimes you can’t find what your looking for in stores but you can get it custome made and it can turn out better then you expected. These photos just wouldn’t have turned out the same without the custom made outfits!
So many of us have those old bridesmaid dresses hanging in the back of the closet that we will never wear again. But we should wear them again! You spend a lot of money on these dresses and you should get to wear them more then once.
All it takes is a few simple alterations to turn that bridesmaid dress into a dress you want to wear again. Here I took this old bridesmaid dress and made a few fit adjustments so that it was better fitting and hemmed it to an above the knee length. Now it’s a great Little Black Dress that can be worn again and again! |
