This floor pouf/ foot stool turned out so great! At the beginning of the year I decided to start saving the majority of my sewing fabric scraps to use as stuffing for one of these foot stools. While doing this I came to realize how much fabric waste I was sending to the landfills. Even though it was only small un-usable pieces of fabric scraps that I toss they added up quick! The bin I was saving them in filled up and I moved on to filling a few bags. Now I find I can go almost a month without emptying my trash bin and all that’s in it is thread, serger shavings and packaging that can’t be recycled. Finally I got around to sewing up the pouf pattern by @closetcase.patterns . Even though it would be simple enough to make without a pattern, it took all the math out of making it and bonus it’s a FREE pattern! It was so fun going through my fabric collection to find coordinating fabrics and using up some small pieces to cut out all the pieces. I mixed shades of browns, tans and creams. Picking different prints and textures of fabrics like faux suede, faux leather, canvas and upholstery fabrics. I inserted a zipper that runs across the base and half way up the sides to make the stuffing process easy and the cover can be removed for washing any time. I made a mesh draw string bag in the same shape to place and compress all my fabric scraps into. Best part is if after a lot of use it flattens out a bit, more stuffing can easily be added! Although I filled it quite tight so that shouldn’t happen any time soon. Thank you to @nudie_tudie for also donating your fabric scraps for me to use. Keeping your company low waste as well! I still have more fabric scraps to use as stuffing and the pile keeps growing so who wants a floor pouf made!! |
